Latest Samsung Galaxy S5 TV Commercial Shows its Water-Resistant Body

The water and dust resistant body of the Samsung Galaxy S5 has been one of its biggest assets since launch. In the latest TV commercial, Samsung has decided to show off this ability to full effect.

The commercial shows kids spraying water on the phone, as kids are ought to do. One shot even shows the phone covered in flour. But thanks to the sealed design, neither of these are problems as you can just wash or wipe the phone and it’ll be good as new.

Check out the new commercial below.

Nokia Lumia 630 gets a Cool Video Promo Full of Football Trick Shots {VIDEO}

In the days between the official announcement and the market release of one of their smartphones, each manufacturer is trying to build up hype about it and promo videos are a commonly used tool for that. In the case of the Lumia 630, Nokia has hired Finnish goalkeeper and trick shot master Lassi Hurskainen to produce what is certainly one of the coolest promo clips we've seen in a while.

Using the help of an assistant, Hurskainen makes some pretty sweet shots to knock several people’s handsets out of their hands. It’s unclear if the phones take any damage, but everyone involved gets a free Lumia 630 and they all seem pretty happy about it.

Check it out.

Alibaba To Enable Fingerprint Purchases For The Galaxy S5

The latest generation of devices reintroduced fingerprint recognition into mobiles, with online payment services like PayPal rapidly jumping aboard to enable secure one-touch authorization for purchases.

Chinese ecommerce site Alibaba is allegedly also looking to enable mobile purchase verification using the Samsung Galaxy S5‘s fingerprint sensor, this time to the wider Asian market.

According to a report out of China, Alibaba is going to allow its third-party online payment platform AliPay to not only make payments but will also let consumers confirm product satisfaction before releasing money to the seller. This feature is set to go live this quarter.

The report also indicates that AliPay has been tested on other fingerprint-sensing devices like the Apple iPhone 5S and HTC One Max, although it is unknown whether the feature will become available to those smartphones as well.

Meanwhile, the news coincides with Samsung’s massive global launch of the Galaxy S5 today. For more on the new high-tech flagship, check out our full review.

Apple looking to Automate Production of iPhone Batteries

Reports out of China indicate that Apple is heading towards automation of the iPhone battery production, resulting in one less labor-intensive iPhone assembly process.

The move will make it easier for the company to potentially move the production of the iPhone elsewhere, as it will not rely as heavily on specialized manual assembly. This follows moves by the company to automate production of its Mac Pro an iMac personal computers, where manpower is not required other than for material supply and final assembly.

Even though increased automation allows for greater global mobility, it’s likely that the tech giant will continue to do most of its production in China. Despite rising minimum wages, high turnover rates, and increasing willingness of younger laborers to work in the manufacturing industry, China continues to be one of the cheapest manufacturing sites.

The country still has a relatively low degree of labor strikes and limited infrastructure compared to other Southeast Asian countries, and many of Apple’s component supply partners are located there. It’s unlikely that the company will move production in the near future, although it is one less load off of the shoulders of factory workers.

The Motorola Moto G Handles Water like a Champion: 30 Minutes Underwater

You would never think that an affordable offering such as the Motorola Moto G with no IP rating or anything will survive being submerged under water for even a few second. When Motorola said it’s wrapping the insides of the phone with a water-resistant nano-coating, many though that’s more of a marketing trick, than anything else.

That’s certainly not the case, as YouTube reviewer Erica Griffin has discovered. In fact the phone dived under water for a nudge over 40 minutes and the result is quite shocking.

The Moto G survived a 15-second dip and was virtually unaffected by it. Then, a 10-minute dive followed, which resulted in a random crashes, but no issues with the overall functionality. The display, camera, loudspeaker, Wi-Fi and 3G connectivity were working as if nothing happened.

But Erica didn’t stop here, as she wanted to see what would happen if the Moto G enjoyed a 30-minute bath. Amazingly, after letting the phone dry for a couple of seconds and the water to get out, everything was fully operational. The battery does get a bit warm at some point, but not really hot. Granted, there was some condensation underneath the camera lens, but after a full night’s rest – the Moto G operated as if it were just unboxed.

The upshot is that the Moto G is really fully water-proof and doesn’t mind taking long or short baths every now and then.
